Whisp Privacy Policy

Whisp is a voice-to-text iOS keyboard ("Whisp", "we", "us"). This Privacy Policy explains what information Whisp processes when you use it, and what we do — and don't — with that information.

What Whisp does

When you tap the microphone button in the Whisp app, Whisp records audio from your iPhone's microphone, transcribes it into text using the Groq Whisper API, and copies the transcribed text to your clipboard so you can paste it into the text field you were typing in.

Optionally, Whisp can polish the raw transcription (fix capitalisation and punctuation) using a Groq chat-completion model.

Data we process

Audio recordings

• Audio is recorded only when you explicitly tap the microphone button.
• Audio is stored in a temporary file on your device, transmitted over HTTPS to Groq's transcription endpoint, and deleted from your device immediately after transcription returns.
• We do not retain audio on our servers. On the Basic plan, Groq receives audio directly from your device using your own Groq API key, governed by Groq's privacy policy. On the Pro plan, audio passes through our Cloudflare Worker (which forwards it to Groq using our server-side Groq API key) and is not logged or stored.

Transcribed text

• Transcribed text is placed on your iOS clipboard so you can paste it. Whisp does not transmit, store, or analyse this text beyond that.

Subscription state

• We store your subscription tier (Basic or Pro), expiration date, and Apple-signed transaction representation in your iPhone's local storage (App Group container) so that the keyboard knows whether you are subscribed.
• On the Pro plan, the Apple-signed transaction representation is sent to our Cloudflare Worker on each transcription request, so the Worker can verify your subscription is active before forwarding the request to Groq. It is not stored on our servers.

API key (Basic plan only)

• Your Groq API key is stored in your iPhone's keychain (App Group keychain) so the Whisp keyboard extension can use it. The key never leaves your device except in HTTPS requests directly to Groq's servers.

Analytics / telemetry

• Whisp does not include any analytics or telemetry SDKs. We do not track usage, opens, sessions, or feature usage. We do not log audio, transcribed text, or your IP address.

Cloudflare access logs (Pro plan only)

• Pro-plan requests to our Cloudflare Worker generate standard HTTP access logs (timestamp, IP address, response code). These are retained by Cloudflare per their standard policies and are used only for debugging and abuse prevention. They do not include audio or text.

Third-party services

Children

Whisp is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13.

Your rights

You can delete all locally stored data by deleting the Whisp app from your iPhone. You can cancel your subscription at any time in iOS Settings → Apple Account → Subscriptions.

We may update this policy from time to time. We will update the "Last updated" date at the top.
